Typhoon Bicycles assisting the UCI on finding mechanical doping

May 3rd 2016 – Typhoon Bicycles were in Aigle, Switzerland to assist the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in their press conference on mechanical doping.

For the past 6 months Typhoon Bicycles have been working closely with the UCI, informing them of our product and how it could be used for unethical purposes and helping them to find ways on detecting hidden motors.

This help has resulted in the UCI finding a technique to easily see if a motor has been installed into a bike.

In the Press – Daily Telegraph

"Something feels wrong. Very wrong. I am cruising past Baden Cooke, a former green jersey winner at the Tour de France, on a climb called Mortola, near Monaco on the coast road to Italy. It is as if he is standing still. The Australian is up on his pedals, giving it everything, while I am in the saddle turning a biggish gear. And I gave him a 100-metre start.

Cooke may be recently retired, but at 36, he is still in shape; lean and muscular. As for me, one thing I can say with complete confidence about my cycling is that it is distinctly average.

What I do have going for me is the fact that concealed within the bottle on my down tube is a battery, which is running a motor, which in turn is helping to turn the bike’s crank. In fact, it is giving me around 250 watts of power, an astonishing amount in a sport where riders would sell their grannies for an extra 20w."
